Biodanza (Rolando Toro System)
Biodanza is a human integration system of organic renewal of affective re- education, and of re-learning of the life original functions. Its application consists in leading vivencias (vitality, sexuality, creativity, affectivity and transcendence potentials) through music, singing, movements and group encounter situations. Biodanza integration process is carried out through the stimulation of primordial functions connected to life that allows every single person to be integrated with himself, with species and universe.
Biodanza was created in the 1960s by the Chilean anthropologist and psychologist Rolando Toro, the Biodanza system is now found in 54 countries, including Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Spain, Chile, France, Norway, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Africa, Uruguay, Netherlands, United Kingdom, United States, Colombia, Venezuela, and Belgium. Biodanza encompasses a central Foundation, a set of schools, thousands of teachers, operating as individual businesses trained to the model who are linked by a non-profit Federation to which they pay annual dues, engaging with hundreds of thousands of enthusiastic dancers around the world.
Workshops
1. AMNIOS AND FETISH
A fetish is a set of physical and psychological characteristics, which have the power to stimulate sexual desire. Height, shape of the face, skin colour, etc, they constitute the structure of a fetish. As Rolando Toro put it, “fetish is the final result of an erotic geology started in infancy.”
When we suddenly need someone as strongly as the air we breathe, it is because our fetish has sprung up, with all its magnetism and all its resonance, awakening we could say our prehistoric world, filled with a hallucinating fauna, irrational laws and insatiable hungers.
The amnios, on the other hand, seems to come from the affective resonance awakened within us by another person. We could say that the “Other” starts to fulfil a function of giving affective continent. The amnios is the womb that allows the birth of unknown potentialities. It is an “organ” that one has in the other person. In this way a physiology of the couple is established.
Security (amnion) and desire (fetiche) are two distinct human needs that stem from different impulses and push in different directions.
2. “I’M ALIVE”
In this workshop i want to stimulate the perception of oneself as part and expression of the whole, it implies a transposition of the borders of the self, the ability to surrender and at the same time being totally anchored in our the centre. It is an invitation to open up to a greater and ecstatic totality, including your fellow humans, the unconscious reality and the entire universe in all its subtle expressions, known and unknown. In Biodanza, connection to the experience of aliveness is the
body experiential perception that the divinity is not separated from the individualized being, but the two express themselves in a relationship of continuity. Being alive is a “natural function to establish essential vital and vibrant connections with everything that exists.
3. THE SACRED PATH OF THE WARRIOR | JUST FOR MEN
"Being a warrior does not require perfect victor or invulnerability. He is the absolute vulnerability. That's the only real courage. "
It is part of human universals seen in many cultures throughout the flow of the time. In the search for truth, meaning and human potential, each society metamorphosed this strength to their own needs. Many of the Great Civilizations have them in its traditions and symbolic narratives. It exists in Shamanic traditions of American Indians, Incas and Mayans in monastic warriors orders from China in the Celtic tradition of the “Knights of the Round Table” and the medieval Templar Order.
In Greek mythology we find the gods Ares and Athena, and his Roman equivalent Mars and Minerva, in the Old Testament are stories of the warriors of God. From the ancient Sparta we ear the legendary stories that tell us about the bravery of Leonidas and his 300 warriors. From Japan comes the familiar concept of the Samurai, people trained from an early age to follow the “Bushido”, the way of the warrior.
4. PRIMORDIAL SERPENT
The sinuous and wonderfully harmonious, undulating and sensual movements of the serpent can be characterized as an archetype of the sexual nature. Adherent, fascinating and voracious it glides with its monstrous beauty in search of its prey. Its energy goes from the pelvic area to the hypnotic eyes. Gaston Bachelard was saying that the serpent is an animalized root. Like the root, it enters the interior of the earth, representing our most primordial, obscure, inferior, chthonic world. Dancing the snake generates contact with powerful psychic energies.
EVENING EVENT
MYSTERIES OF DYONISIOS
Dionisio represents a deep voice, coming directly from a primordial source. Music and drunkenness are its means and collective ecstasy its end.
All the other gods want temples to be built, not Dionysus, he wants liveliness, presence. Lives with the Satyrs, the Nymphs and the Bacchantes, all of them illustrious representatives of the forces of nature, he lives in the flowers, lives in the blood that flows, thirsty for pleasure. In a patriarchal culture, Dionysus is the great liberator of women, creating conditions to access the maximum of pleasure and surrender.

Dance of life, heart and freedom. Biodanza is a dance of heart and freedom from South America, which originated in the 1960s. His father was psychologist, anthropologist, poet and artist Rolando Toro from Chile.
As a method of personal development, Biodanza is used in over 30 countries around the world. It is based on personal, direct experience – individually, in pairs, subgroups or a group of all participants. Biodanza is a system of deeply transforming, yet delicate work on personal development and awareness based on work with the body, movement and dance. It integrates body, mind, emotions and soul. It awakens vitality, creativity, sensuality, sexuality and emotionality. It teaches openness, joy, building good relationships and expressing emotions.
Biodanza led by Cristiano Martins is a wonderful dance journey through the landscapes of emotions, joy, dance and movement. It's easy. You don't need to learn any dance steps. All you need is the will to move your body and enter into a relationship with the music. We start simple - with a meeting, connecting with other people in the group, we use games and activities to relax, let go of everyday matters and get to know each other. We move deep into the dance, passionately devoting ourselves to music, experiencing individually and as a group. From here we go even deeper into the exercises of meeting and connecting with others to heal, discover and express. Biodanza integrates body, mind, emotions and soul. It awakens vitality, creativity, sensuality, sexuality and emotionality. It teaches openness, joy, building good relationships and expressing emotions.
