Workshops
1. The Wheel of Consent
Consent should be simple. Yes means yes, and no means no, end of story. But many of us struggle to express our desires, or clearly state our boundaries, or find the language to create the kinds of experiences and connections we long for. In this workshop we explore Betty Martin's ground-breaking 'Wheel of Consent', in which participants can experience each of its four quadrants: Giving, Receiving, Taking, Allowing. Consent is not just about what we might do, but getting really clear on why we are doing it – who is it for? We discover which quadrants feel comfortable and which feel unfamiliar, so we can clarify our desires and shine a light on our blind-spots. Then we can avoid consent accidents, and create connections which are more intimate, authentic and pleasurable. In this age of #metoo, let’s make sure we are all as good as we possibly can be at consent.
2. Ecstatic Body-Painting Ritual
This workshop is an invitation to step into our child-like innocence and innate creativity, helping us to release shame, judgment, and any old stories we may have about our physical body. We begin with some grounding movement and dance, then we enter our ritual – taking time to explore skin as canvas, as we tune into and honour each other’s bodies and boundaries. This evolves into a colourful and often playful group process, before we move into movement and dance to celebrate all that we are. No artistic ability is required to take part. Everything, including nudity, is optional and you will be supported to remain in consent at all times.
3. The Four Energies of Intimate Touch
In this workshop you will learn how to share different qualities of touch, based on the four elements of Earth, Water, Fire and Air. These qualities offer the giver a range of different energies, inviting you beyond our habitual ideas of what a massage ‘should’ look like. We also empower the receiver to communicate exactly the kind of healing or pleasure they desire. Nudity and genital touch will be demonstrated and welcomed – however, it’s perfectly possible to take part in this workshop without having any genital touch, or removing your clothing. We will support everyone to express their boundaries and remain in consent at all times. You will need to find a partner to fully take part in this workshop, although groups of three are also possible. Pairings and groups can be of any gender.
4. Power, Surrender and Consent
Power dynamics surround us in every area of our lives – in our families, intimate relationships and work-places. The #metoo movement shows us all how often power is misused, at both a cultural and personal level. There has never been a more important time to explore our own relationship with power, and how conscious we are of it. Are we addicted to power, or do we give it away too easily? Can we step into our power without taking from others? Can we be in full choice about when and how we surrender, and to whom? What is our relationship with authority - and this includes our relationship with the teacher who is holding the space for us to explore power!
In this workshop there will be a variety of exercises and embodiment practices which shine a light on how we relate to our own power, and the power of others. By creating a safe space, we open the possibility for these explorations to be insightful, playful, erotic, cathartic, liberating, healing, or all the above. When we reclaim a healthy relationship towards our own personal and sexual power, life will never be the same again…
Events:
1. Ecstatic Dance
This is an invitation to welcome ourselves back into the body – to celebrate in movement ourselves, each other, and the sacred earth which holds us all. There are no steps to get right - the experience of our dance is about being, rather than doing, releasing into the full freedom of our dance, and surrendering to the wisdom of the body as the beat takes over. There will be a range of ElectroSwing, Electronic and World Rhythms to inspire and invite us into movement, and you are welcome in your entirety: your exuberance, your innocence, your courage, your raw animal self, your divine spirit, and everything else – all of you is welcome here! Unlike some other workshops, at this session you are free to come and go throughout the evening as you please.
